— About Tin Ujević
Born on July 5, 1891, in Vrgorac, Tin Ujević became one of Croatia’s most celebrated poets. His turbulent life took him from Split and Zagreb to Paris and Belgrade, reflecting the complex political and cultural landscape of his time. As a student of Antun Gustav Matoš, he belonged to the rebellious generation of Croatian intellectuals. His bohemian phase began in 1929 when he devoted himself entirely to poetry, producing masterworks that continue to inspire artists today.
— Literary Legacy
Ujević’s most famous collections include ‘Lelek sebra’, ‘Kolajna’, ‘Auto na korzu’, ‘Ojađeno zvono’, and ‘Žedan kamen na studencu’. Though he received no literary awards during his lifetime, numerous awards now bear his name. His poetic work inspired legendary musician Arsen Dedić and continues to influence Croatian culture. He died in Zagreb on November 12, 1955, leaving behind a rich literary heritage.
