The exhibition authors, Ivan Andabak and Branka Gudić, through their selection of materials from the State Archives in Split, have highlighted the rich history of Poljičica script as an indispensable part of the cultural identity of central Dalmatia.

On the same occasion, we will present two publications from the State Archives in Split and two publications from the Center for Epigraphic, Paleographic and Historical-Theological Research “Don Frane Bulić” of the Catholic Faculty of Theology in Split and the University Center for Croatian, Venetian and Ottoman Studies of the University of Split:

The Medical Recipe Book of Don Ivan Zoričić from 1691 is a collection of 232 recipes written in Poljičica script. It belongs to Mrs. Branka Bezić Filipović and was digitized at the State Archives in Split. Archivists Branka Gudić and Ivan Andabak fully process and transliterate its content, interpret linguistic features, analyze ingredients, list diseases, and address magical-religious elements. Part of the publication includes a dictionary of lesser-known words and archaisms, as well as a facsimile of the medical recipe book.

The publication “Tracing Poljičica” is a guide through the collections of the State Archives in Split where documents and records written in Poljičica script are preserved. From public administration and judiciary, through family collections and registry books, the authors present the use of this script in administrative, legal and everyday contexts, from the 16th to the 19th century.
